Sturgis Girls Wrestling: Historic Season Wrap-Up

DescriptionSenior Brooklynn Baird reflects on her strong run at the state tournament and finishing sixth overall.  Freshman Annalee Pierson, the program’s first-ever girls state champion with a near-perfect 50-1 record, discusses her path to the title, including a gritty championship match. She highlights the growing team culture, the shift from a small group to nearly 20 girls, and how the close-knit family atmosphere has changed her view of wrestling as more than just individual success. Coach John Pierson credits the Scoopers success to every team member and celebrates the program’s rapid growth, five tournament wins, first region title, and a solid 10th-place team finish at state with five podium spots, while emphasizing the bright future ahead with strong young talent and a focus on fundamentals.  Interviews and photos by Tim Potts.
