The ribbon cutting ceremony officially launched the 68th annual Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo, a milestone year overlapping America’s 250th birthday, Rapid City’s 150th anniversary, and the 100th year of Sutton Rodeo. General Manager Ron Jeffries welcomed everyone and highlighted the community effort behind the event, followed by Central States Fair Board President Jim Hunt, who praised the dedicated staff and volunteers. Governor Larry Rhoden cut the ribbon and shared fond memories of past stock shows. Sutton Rodeo’s Kim and Steve Sutton reflected on their family’s century-long legacy, while Pennington County Commissioner Deb Hadcock and Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun presented proclamations recognizing the event’s deep roots and Western hospitality. The ceremony closed with a group photo and the traditional ribbon cutting to open ten days of rodeo, livestock shows, trade shows and celebrations.
