In observance of Earth Day on Thursday, April 22, Black Hills Energy planted three trees on the Kansas City Street campus of OneHeart, a transformation center in Rapid City that creates pathways out of poverty for those desiring to thrive. We visited with OneHeart Executive Director Charity Doyle about this great program. Also hear from Black Hills Energy Vice President of Electric Utilities, Nick Gardner, about the start of the energy savings tree program.
The tree planting at OneHeart is one of several ways that Black Hills Energy celebrates both Earth Day and Arbor Day in April and May. Other activities include:
- A give-away of saplings for Black Hills Energy customers kicking off on April 22. Apply for a free tree at www.arborday.org/blackhillsenergy.
- As a part of the 50th Annual City-Wide Clean Up campaign, Black Hills Energy employee Ambassadors are picking up trash along Catron Blvd from Mt. Rushmore Rd. to Sheridan Lake Rd. on April 22, starting at 1:00 p.m.
- A tree-trimming demonstration for Black Hills Energy employees on Arbor Day on April 30 at their Horizon Point facility on Mt. Rushmore Rd. and Catron Blvd between noon and 1:00 p.m.
- Collaboration with the City of Rapid City to plant trees in the outdoor classroom at Raider Park near Stevens High School at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 10.
