
The Newell High School Track and Field team thrived under perfect weather conditions at the Belle Fouche Invite. The warm temperatures were ideal for record-setting performances. Clint Winkler led the team, winning the two-mile race with a personal record (PR) of 10:34, a 10-second improvement, and taking first in the mile, just one second shy of his PR. He also earned third place in the 800 meters, see the exciting close finish to that race. Malachi Whitacre talks reaching a personal best in the 800 meters, dropping nine seconds to finish at 2:30. Sarah Erk shares her success in the field events while also setting a PR in the 100-meter dash. Bethany Mahaffy talks about setting two season bests in the mile and 800. Assistant coach Garrett Winkler and head coach Anna Erk praised the team’s standout efforts, noting that several performances could qualify athletes for the state meet.
